Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway will be the 3rd entry in the Brothers in Arms series of video games. It will see players reprise the role of Sergeant Matt Baker, a soldier of the 101st Airborne Division, during Operation Market Garden in the late stages of World War II. The game will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game has many new features, including the ability to command a further squad, from a selection of new specialized units (Bazooka Teams, Machine Gun teams, Mortar Teams, as well as Radio Teams with which to call in artillery support). When a command is issued, the player model uses hand signals to issue the command to his squad, just like the previous games in the series.
[edit] Notes
- It has been confirmed in a gameplay demo that Baker, Paddock, Hartsock, Corrion, Courtland and Zanovich will be in it.
- In the pre-E3 trailer, a civilian is shown distracting the Sergeant to alert him of a hiding soldier behind a clothesline. Such outside AI communication will be implemented.
- Also, Matt Baker now has the ability to use heavy weapons. In one trailer, he is shown ordering a Bazooka round to be fired upon an 88. He can also make use of Machine Gun squads, Mortar Teams and a Radio Man who can call in Artillery or Air Support.
- There are new moves called Brother-hood moments where your caracter is shortly taken over by a computer and chatches one of your fallen comrades. Bro-Mos are meant to show the bonds and connection between the fighting men of the time period and how everyone of your squad mates was like a brother.
- The player's weapon swings around more realistically as it would in real life instead of just staying still (or moving slightly). This is due to the new camera system. Gearbox describes it like a 3rd person camera placed inside your head. This means that you have a whole avatar and not a fixed camera and disembodied arms holding a gun. Because of that the physics are at work on Baker's limbs.
- The player can now go prone as well as crouch and stand. Only crouching and standing were available in previous games in the series.
- On most of the missions you will have no objective marker which is different from almost all other shooters. Instead you will have to rely on clues present in-game as you move towards your target. The 10 min. trailer showed examples of this when all you knew was that you were looking for some 88's. Over the horizon were flak puffs and when a group of US planes flew over, one was shot down. The player will need to be able to recognize hints like these to succeed.
- The full E3 video can be downloaded in 720p from the Xbox Live Marketplace.
- The Characters in the series are set to become more developed, each with their own personal history, characteristics and habits.
- Cutscenes have become more detailed and realistic.
- Since the real life Lieutenant Colonel Robert G. Cole died during Operation Market Garden there's a good chance that this game will show his death and how it comes about.
- An interesting note about the multiplayer in the new BIA is that you will have the option of fighting on a campaign map, with a friend. You and your friend will fight over territories and then gain positional advantages to take hold of Europe.
- In the 10 minute trailer it shows the m1 Garand being reloaded. a detail that many other ww2 games forget that can be done
- Your squadmates arent perfect anymore they will trip and fall during combat and other will help then up.
[edit] Confirmed Facts
It has also been confirmed that Pvt. Allen and Pvt. Garnett, who were killed in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, will return in some form which will most likely be a flashback cutscene which might also explain the mystery of how they were killed.
