Heiligerlee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heiligerlee (Gronings: Kloosterholt) is a village in the municipality of Scheemda, Netherlands, it is known because it was the site of the first battle of the Dutch rebels against the Spanish. The army led by Louis and Adolph of Nassau defeated the Spanish, but politically it was no success. Adolph even died during the fight.

In 1868 a monument was placed - Het Graaf Adolf Monument (The Count Adolph Monument) – to remember the battle.
