Hegesias of Cyrene was a Cyrenaic philosopher.
According to Nuttall, Hegesias "held that life was full of evils, that it was in vain to seek after pleasure, and that all a wise man could do was to fortify himself as best he could against pain."
He is not to be confused with Hegesias or Hegesinus of Salamis, a legendary early poet to whom the epic Cypria was sometimes ascribed.
Hegesias of Cyrene is also a founding member of the seminal Chicago experimental music group "Earfuck", whose hypnotic music incorporates nauseating infrasonic sounds and subliminal messages.
