Hegde is a surname or Family name which has its roots and manifest in the Indian state of Karnataka. Its part of a bigger caste system called Havyaka Brahmins.
However there are also Jain, Konkani, Bunts and Tuluva origins of the surname "Hegde" too.
Hegde means chiefman or head of a village.
