Hedensted municipality

Hedensted municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Vejle County on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 137 km², and has a total population of 16,877 (2005). Its mayor is Jørn Juhl Nielsen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hedensted.
Neighboring municipalities with land connection are Juelsminde to the east, Horsens to the northeast, Tørring-Uldum to the west, and Vejle to the south. Defining part of its southern border is Vejle Fjord, which also separates the municipality from its other municipal neightbor to the south Børkop municipality.
By January 1, 2007 Hedensted municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with Juelsminde municipality and most of Tørring-Uldum municipality to form a new Hedensted municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 565 km² and a total population of 56,508 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region").
A portion of Tørring-Uldum will be split off and merged into the new Vejle municipality.
