Heckler & Koch SP89

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The HK SP89 (Sport Pistole M1989, or "Sporting Pistol, Model 1989") is a semi-automatic, "civilian" version of the Heckler & Koch MP5K, marketed for sporting use. Its inherent accuracy makes it an excellent choice for target shooting and small-game hunting. This low recoil pistol uses the proven delayed roller locked bolt system common to many HK firearms.

This firearm was banned by name from importation into the United States by a presidential executive order in 1993 banning the import of "assault pistols".[1] It was also further named in the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 as an "assault weapon". Although the latter act has now expired, the previous presidential order is still in effect and the pistol remains banned from import.[2] This is somewhat of a moot point as the pistol is no longer in production. Existing examples in the U.S. command a premium price from collectors.
