"Heavy Metal Machine" is a promotional single release by The Smashing Pumpkins from their fifth studio album Machina/The Machines of God, released on cassette tape only. It was written by Billy Corgan.

The song has come in to some criticism since its release for the use of the line 'if I were dead/would my records sell.'[citation needed]. The song name and lyrics are a reference to Metal Machine Music, an abrasive experimental noise album released by Lou Reed in 1975. An even more abrasive version of the song (truer perhaps to the Metal Machine Music reference) appears on Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music.
