HEAVY GAUGE is the 5th released album from the Japanese rock band, GLAY. In this album GLAY dables in the gospel genre for the first time; using Gospel choirs in songs such as Will Be King and HAPPINESS. This album also marks a milestone in GLAY's career with their hit song Winter, again. The song won Single of the Year (1999) at the Japan Record Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the Japanese music industry.
The album is listed as GLAY's 4th most successful album on the Oricon Chart out of all their released albums, including Best of compliations.

- FATSOUNDS was performed on HEY! HEY! HEY! Music Champ. The song was not a single.
- SURVIVAL is the very first video single GLAY released. Despite popular beliefs, SURVIVAL is NOT the only song featured in an anime by GLAY.
- ikigai was also used in the TDK Mini Disc CMs.
- Many songs from the album were also used in the Meiji Seika Kaisha ad campaigns for their "Horn" and "Flan" product food lines.
- The 2000 ARENA TOUR "HEAVY GAUGE" is one of GLAY's rawest and darkest concerts.
- The actual CD case is glow in the dark, a little detail that makes this CD stand out from the rest.
