Heather's real name is Cheryl Mason, the adopted daughter of the horror novelist Harry Mason, who survived Silent Hill. She is also known as Alessa Gillespie, the daughter of Dahlia Gillespie, a member of the cult which controlled Silent Hill, and Dr. Michael Kauffmann, the director of medical staff at Alchemilla Hospital where Alessa's nurse, Lisa Garland, also worked. When Harry escaped Silent Hill, Alessa came back as an apparition and presented him with a newborn baby, which is both Cheryl, and Alessa herself, reborn. Harry, in an attempt to throw the cult off - should they come and look for both him and the child - renamed her Heather, and relocated to another city.

She is often called Heather Morris, the voice actress who portrayed her, by fans.

[edit] Personality

One very obvious trait of Heather is that she is moody and loses her temper quite easily at things that frustrate her. She shows many examples of this behaviour throughout the game, for example;

During the opening movie just before Heather dodges Douglas into the ladies bathroom. When Douglas continues to follow her, she immediately turns around and shouts at him,” Are you still following me? Do I have to scream?”

When Heather is transported into the Otherworld version of the office building, she kicks the bath in anger and says “Did she do this too?, ”

This can also be seen in another instance when Heather first meets Vincent, where he instantly proceeds to insult her father, saying “I guess he hid the truth to keep you on his side, eh? That figures. He’s a pretty sneaky guy.” Immediately, she bangs her fist on the door and yells, “Don’t talk about my dad like that!” Here we can tell she had lost her temper as Vincent holds both hands up and says “Sorry, I apologize. Please, calm down.”

However, it could also show her love for her father as Harry Mason is the only one Heather ever cared for, it is no surprise she would jump into Harry’s defense when Vincent criticizes him. When Harry dies, she is completely distraught, and begins to turn to Douglas more, as he is the only older male "father figure" she can trust. This is evident when she was so concerned over him when she saw him injured in the Lakeside Amusement Park, and also stated “Well, maybe if you’d compared me to your daughter...” which shows that she was hoping that Douglas would take her in his care.

[edit] Wardrobe

Heather has dyed blonde hair which is cut short but layered. She wears an orange, sleeveless turtleneck under a white, hooded vest with numerous front pockets and a green denim mini skirt. She also wears tall brown boots, a wristwatch, and an orange wristband on each arm.

After completing a game, a new option will be unlocked on the main menu which will enable the player to input codes for alternate outfits. Some of them sports the names of gaming magazines. Most of the outfits consist of different coloured tank tops and jeans, but there is one interesting alternate outfit, “Transform,” is obtained after inputting the code "Princess Heart." It can be accessed by using a key which shows up in Heather’s inventory after the start of a new game. In a very Sailor Moon-esque scene, Heather will change into her “Transform” costume. It enables Heather to run long distances without becoming tired.
