"Heart Of Steel" is a two part episode of the critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series. The first part aired on November 16, 1992 and was written by Brynne Stephens and directed by Kevin Altieri. The second part aired on November 17.

High-tech secrets are stolen from Wayne Enterprises by a robot and Barbara Gordon suspects that her father is not himself. Both instances lead to a plan by H.A.R.D.A.C., an Artificial Intelligence computer created by Karl Rossum, to supplant humanity with machines. Batman soon investigates, only to put his identity and life on the line.

We further follow Batman's investigation as he must save Commissioner Gordon and detective Harvey Bullock from H.A.R.D.A.C.

  • The character Rossum, portrayed by William Sanderson, resembles Sanderson's character J.F.Sebastian in the film Blade Runner. There, he is a secluded designer of robots and artificial intelligence, much like Rossum.
  • Kevin Altieri stated that the character design of Randa is based on Marilyn Monroe.
