Health, Welfare and Food Bureau

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau (Traditional Chinese: 衞生福利及食物局) of Hong Kong oversees the policies on health, welfare, environmental hygiene and food issues. The Health, Food and Environmental Hygiene, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation and Social Welfare departments report to the Bureau. The current secretary is York Chow, and the permanent secretary is Carrie Yau.

When the Principal Officials Accountability System (POAS) was introduced in July 2002, the name of the Bureau was renamed from Health and Welfare Bureau to its present name, with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department was transferred from the now abolished Environment and Food Bureau. Prior to the transfer of sovereignty in 1997 it was named Health and Welfare Branch.
