Head Hits Concrete

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Head Hits Concrete was a political grindcore band that formed in April of 1999 in Winnipeg, Canada by Mike Alexander (vocals), Jeff Byckal (guitar), and Brad Skibinsky (drums). After several live appearances Justin Ludwar (bass) would join to solidify the line up of the band.

[edit] Their releases included

  • The 10 song "Mitakuye Oyasin" demo CS (2000).
  • An eponymous 15 song EP on Sweden's Sounds Of Betrayal Records (2001), after which Jeff Byckal parted ways with the band.
  • A split 10" with Holland's My Minds Mine, again on Sweden's Sounds Of Betrayal Records, with new guitarist Darcy Bunio.
  • "Hope, Fear and the Terror of Dreams" EP on Intolerant Messiah Records (USA, 2002).
  • A split EP with America's Bodies Lay Broken on One Percent Records (USA, 2004), after which Justin Ludwar would leave the band.
  • A self released anthology CD entitled "Thy Kingdom Come Undone", which encompassed the entire recorded output of the band up until that point (2003), which was later re-released by Crimes Against Humanity Records (USA, 2004).
  • A limited edition tour only 5 song EP on Plastic Airlines Records (USA, 2004) with new bassist and recording engineer Craig Boychuk.

During their existence they played numerous shows in Winnipeg including an annual extreme music festival known as Arsonfest and embarked on one American and one Canadian tour (which was done with tourmates Fuck The Facts from Ottawa). The band decided to part ways to pursue other projects after returning from their western Canadian tour in 2004, agreeing to perform twice more and record once more before the 15th of October 2004.
