HeadCase is a commercial Windows-only Mind Mapping application. It was developed by a developer operating under the nom de guerre of Loaned Genius with the partnership of Vanda North of the Buzan Centres (Tony Buzan). It claims to comply with all of the Mind Mapping Laws and is aimed at the educational market. It uses a layered architecture based on the Decorator pattern which enables it to take extensions such as 3D effects, faded fills and suchlike, and an XML file format. The stated aim of the project is to recreate Mind Maps with all the characteristics of those shown in the Mind Map Book. It incorporates an evolutionary scheme for creating simple ClipArt on-the-fly and can link to a variety of external file formats.

The results from HeadCase can be exported as outlines and/or pictures to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; as web pages or HTML Outlines; and as GIF, Enhanced Metafile and Bitmap images.

Due to low sales the developer has now closed the company. There is an internet group which is open to anyone interested in participating in the conceptual development, listed in the external links below. This is still active and the developer is still working on the software to support existing users and iron out problems while the future direction of the project becomes clear. The software is still for sale, but a freeware version of the Beginner-level application will be made available in the near future, according to recent announcements.
