Haywoode Workman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Haywoode Wilvon Workman (born January 23, 1966 in Charlotte, North Carolina) is a former NBA player who played the point guard position at 6'2". His career spanned from 1990 to 2000. Workman attended college at Winston-Salem State University and Oral Roberts University and was selected in the second round of the 1989 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. After he lasted six games with the Hawks, he spent the remainder of the season with the Topeka Sizzlers of the CBA and the next one with the Washington Bullets. Following that, Workman played in Italy with Scavolini Pesaro for two years and returned to the NBA in 1993, signing with the Indiana Pacers, where he became a starting point guard and an integral part of the Pacers' deep run into the 1994 Playoffs. Workman would remain in Indiana until 1998, not playing that final season because of a serious knee injury. Despite the Pacers trading in the summer of 1994 for a more experienced point guard in Mark Jackson, Workman, along with players such as Antonio Davis, Sam Mitchell, and Dale Davis become invaluable to the Pacer's depth and was integral to the teams consistent post season success in the mid to late nineties. Workman would finish off his career by playing his final two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors. Workman was known for not having the most skills in the NBA, but true to his last name, worked and hustled twice as hard as many of those around him to prove and keep his spot in the NBA.
Workman is currently working towards becoming an NBA official.
