Haven (Artemis Fowl)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haven City is a fictitious fairy metropolis located several miles underground in the Artemis Fowl series and the capital of the Lower Elements. It, along with Atlantis is one of the only places that a large number of fairies can live in. The only humans known to have been to Haven are Artemis Fowl and his servant, Butler. Haven is powered by eco-friendly means, and as artificial sunstrips located on its ceiling to give the illusion of day and night. Its highways move vehicles along predetermined paths, like rails.

It was named Haven because it is one of the last "havens" for fairies. The centaur Foaly monitors its security systems, which include several means of detecting any human activity near Haven. He shut the city down after detecting human activity in the third book, Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code. Haven is reached from the surface by means of large, metallic eggs which ride on magma chutes.

In the second book, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident, it was overrun by goblins during their uprising which was led by Opal Koboi and Briar Cudgeon.
