Hathazari is located at 22°30′29.9″ N 91°48′29.9″ E (22.5083, 91.8083) . It has 52594 units of house hold and total area 251.28 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^GRBangladeh, Hathazari has a population of 321004. Males constitute are 51.62% of the population, and females 48.38%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 157524. Hathazari has an average literacy rate of 48.3% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[1]
