Hatena Co., Ltd.

Hatena Co., Ltd. (株式会社はてな Kabushiki-gaisha hatena?) is an internet services company in Japan. It operates various services including the most popular social bookmarking service in Japan[1], Hatena Bookmark. Hatena is the common name of Hatena Co., Ltd. and also the colletive terms of it's services. In July 19, 2001, it was founded by Junya Kondo in Kyoto. The company is headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Hatena Diary is the blog hosting service. On January 16, 2003, it was released as beta version. On March 13, 2003, it was taken out of beta. Hatena Diary is multi-lingual service which supports UTF-8 as character code. Hatena Diary has free version and premium version. The chief characteristics of Hatena Diary is it's keyword system.

Hatena Markup is the markup language, which is similar to Wikitext. You can use it to insert hyperlink, embed YouTube movie or quote the words in your Hatena Diary. It is easy to understand how to use, and you don't need any knowledge of HTML.

ID Trackback is the TrackBack not for the specific entry but for the specific user. If you link to the other Hatena Diary in your Hatena Diary, TrackBack is executed automatically. ID Trackback is used especially to inform the other user about what you mention, and accelerates interaction between the users.

Hatena Diary Keyword is the dictonary service and automatically links to Hatena Diaries which mention the keyword. Hatana Bookmark and Hatena RSS also use Hatena Diary Keyword. If you meet the requirements and become "Hatena Diary Citizen", you can create and modify Hatena Diary Keyword.

Hatena Bookmark is the social bookmarking service. It is called Hatebu for short. You can save the specific URL as a bookmark and tag it. You are able to interact with the other users through the tags. You can also leave the comment up to 100 double-byte characters.

Hatena Bookmark counts the number of users per specific URL, therefore you can see what bookmarks are popular among Hatena Users. "Add to Hatena Bookmark" button is integrated into a lot of famous news sites, asahi.com, CNET Japan, ZDNet Japan, Nikkei ITpro, and ITmedia.
