A hate figure is a person, normally in the public eye, who is widely disliked. The public's hatred for that person is sometimes unexplained, or may be because of horrific acts (see: Osama Bin Laden, Myra Hindley [1]).

The Gay Football Supporters Network contests an annual poll of its members on a number of subjects. This includes a "Hate Figure" category. The winner in 2006 was Jose Mourinho.
