Hashim Music

Hashim Music, an alias for Jerry Calliste Jr., is a New York City-based producer and DJ best known for the classic electro track Al-Naafiysh (The Soul).

His debut single Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) was released under the alias Hashim in 1983 on Cutting Records. It reached number 43 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Music Chart and went on to become one of the most influential electro tunes of the 1980s. The track has reportedly sold over 400,000 copies on 12" single and appeared on dozens of compilations. It was also featured on the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto Vice City and NBA ShootOut 2004.

Hashim Music is currently running an Internet-based record label, Bassmint Music. His debut album Limited Edition Releases is due for release on Bassmint in May 2007.
