The Harzquerbahn was formerly the mainline of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen and runs from Wernigerode to Nordhausen. The tourist potential of the Brocken is so great that the Brockenbahn is effectively the mainline. The Harzquerbahn joins up with the Selketalbahn to Quedlinburg at Eisfelde Talmüle where all trains are organised to make good connections.
