Two gaiden games have been released that expand on the story of Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3 - Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3 Izayoiki (遙かなる時空の中で3 十六夜記?) and Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 3 Unmei no Labyrinth (遙かなる時空の中で3 運命の迷宮?).

[edit] Story

One day Nozomi Kasuga encounters a strange boy at her high school, and is sent into Kyō, another world that is similar to Kyoto at the end of the Heian period. There, the Minamoto clan (Genji) led by Minamoto no Yoritomo is at war with the Taira clan (Heike) led by Taira no Kiyomori, who should already be dead. The Heike hope to defeat the Genji by releasing vengeful spirits (onryō) to terrorize the land. Discovering that she has the power to seal the vengeful spirits as the Ryūjin no Miko (白龍の神子 Priestess of the Dragon God?), the Nozomi allies with the Genji, because she cannot return home until she strengthens her power as the Miko and dispells the evil.

[edit] Characters

The main character, and the first Miko in the series to fight with a sword. Because of this, she is bolder and more brave than the main characters of the previous games. Before being summoned to Kyō she lived in Kamakura.
Seiryū of Heaven (天の青龍?), and Yuzuru Arikawa's older brother. Masaomi is Nozomi's childhood friend and classmate. After being sent to Kyō Masaomi was rescued by the Heike, and he has been living as Taira no Shigemori, a Heike general. Masaomi arrived in Kyō three years earlier than Nozomi, which is why he is 21 years old.
Seiryū of Earth (地の青龍?). Kurō is a younger brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the lord of Kamakura. In childhood Kurō was called Ushiwaka. He respects his older brother Yoritomo and works hard on behalf of the Genji. He is based on the historical Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
Suzaku of Heaven (天の朱雀?). Hinoe is a member of the Kumano navy. He is a flirt with an upbeat personality. In truth the is steward of Kumano, and his true name is Fujiwara Tanzō. Hinoe is a nephew of Benkei, the Suzaku of Earth, and childhood friend to Atsumori, the Genbu of Heaven. He is based on the historical Tanzō, the 21st steward of Kumano.
Suzaku of Earth (地の朱雀?). Benkei is an herbalist as well as a military strategist for the Genji. He is Kurō's retainer and confidante, and he has mild mannered but secretive personality. Benkei is Hinoe's uncle. He is based on the historical Saito Musashibo Benkei.
Byakko of Heaven (天の白虎?). Yuzuru is the younger brother of Masaomi, the Seiryū of Heaven. He has unrequited feelings for Nozomi. Yuzuru is a worrywort and tends to nag others, but he can also be sweet.
Byakko of Earth (地の白虎?). Kagetoki is the older brother of Kajiwara Saku, the Kokuryū no Miko (黒龍の神子 Priestess of the Black Dragon?). He is an Onmyōji and a military commander. Though Kagetoki seems frivolous, he is very observant. He enjoys doing laundry. He is based on the historical Kajiwara Kagetoki.
Genbu of Heaven (天の玄武?). Atsumori is like a nephew to Taira no Kiyomori. He has reserved personality and loves playing the flute. Atsumori is a childhood friend of Hinoe. He is based on the historical Taira no Atsumori.
Genbu of Earth (地の玄武?). A member of the Oni Clan, who is known as the tengu of Mt. Kurama. Lizvan teaches Nozomi and Kurō swordplay. He seldom speaks, which gives the impression of being unsociable. Lizvan's character is based on folktales that say Minamoto no Yoshitsune learned swordsmanship from a tengu.
