Hartlepool nuclear power station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hartlepool Power Station is a nuclear power station of the advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) type, which was opened near Hartlepool in 1983 and is scheduled for decommissioning by 2014. It provides electricity for over 3% of the UK through two 1575 MWth advanced gas reactors and two 660 MWe generators.
The plant operator, British Energy, has suggested that the site would be a good location for a replacement nuclear power station, though this is opposed by environmental groups such as Greenpeace. Many local people are also opposed to the move - the power station lies just one mile from the resort of Seaton Carew.[dubious — see talk page]
