Harris Jayaraj (born January 8, 1975) is a film composer from Tamil cinema. He has written scores and soundtracks and played music for many Tamil films, as well as Telugu and Hindi films. He lives in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Over a period of six years, Jayaraj has established himself as one of the leading composers in South India.

Harris Jayaraj was born into a pious Christian family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He studied at the Krishnasamy Matric School in Chennai and later obtained a music degree in London, England. His father, S.M. Jayakumar, is a film guitarist who later became a noted Indian musician and composer.

Jayaraj entered the world of film music as a musician, playing the keyboard for many films. He started as a composer by writing advertising jingles. His first movie score was for the Tamil film Minnale (2001). The music was well received, with the song, "Vaseegara", from the film becoming a hit, ruling the charts for many weeks. He next composed music for the Tamil movies 12B and Majunu. His film songs were once again extremely popular. His first film score in Hindi films was the music for Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein, a remake of Minnale.
In 2005, he was successful in composing hit music for the movies Anniyan and Ghajini which were released to acclaim and popularity. The song "Sutrum Vizhi" from the film Ghajini, like "Vaseegara," did very well.
He has since worked on a number of movies, including Vettaiyadu Villaiyadu (2006) where songs including "Nerrupae" became popular.

Jayaraj has said that his favorite composers are Hans Zimmer (who wrote the music for the film Gladiator ) and M.S.Viswanathan.

Jayaraj is married to Joyce. The couple have a son called Samuel Nicholas. His father is now a noted evangelistic musician.
