Harold Tennant

The Rt. Hon. Harold John Tennant (1865–9 November 1935) was a Scottish Liberal politician.
Son of Charles Clow Tennant, he was born at The Glen, Innerleithen, Peeblesshire and educated at Eton College and at Trinity College, Cambridge.
He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwickshire (later renamed Berwick and Haddington) from 1894 until his defeat in 1918. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Glasgow Central in 1923.
He served as Assistant Private Secretary to his brother-in-law Asquith while the latter was Home Secretary, then as Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade from 1909-11, Financial Secretary to the War Office from 1911-12, Under-Secretary of State for War from 1912 to 1916, and Secretary for Scotland from July-December 1916. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1914.
