[edit] Early and current life
Steves was born of Maude and Harold Steves Sr., one of Richmond's first founding families. The Steves, Harold and wife Kathy, reside in the old Steves farmhouse, built 1917, and part of an 11-acre cattle ranch now surrounded by residential development in what is now called Steveston - named after the family of course.
A school teacher by profession, Harold is now more or less retired outside of his political life. Harold is very active in community life in the Steveston area, and is particularly interested in the preservation of farmland, heritage preservation, and environmental issues. Harold also owns a ranch in Cache Creek, B.C.
