A hardcore bro is a member of a recent subculture within the modern hardcore movement. The invention of this phrase was coined by combining the attitude and styles from people who are considered "bros" and the typical fan of hardcore punk music.

[edit] Culture

Hardcore bros unlike the "bros" they are named for are mainly advocates of the straight edge movement and generally shy away from the typical party scene. Hardcore bros are excitable people and find joy in moshing, often executing the most extreme of "moves". Being a positive individual is another staple of the hardcore bro culture, the phrase "ignorance is bliss" is often used when describing a hardcore bro. Physical upkeep and well being are also major parts of the hardcore bro movement as leading a healthy life style is essential to being "positive". Unlike many scene related cliques, hardcore bros do not necessarily advocate the practice of veganism.

[edit] "Hardcore Bro" Bands

Hardcore bros generally enjoy bands that are generally fast, upbeat, and positive. These bands are almost always hardcore bands although metal is sometimes appreciated. Heavy hardcore is also appreciated, but only if it is of a positive nature or has a certain bravado that hardcore bros are attracted to. Examples of bands that hardcore bros generally enjoy are as follows: Youth of Today, Ten Yard Fight, Champion, Righteous Jams, xIblisx, Up Front, xLooking Forwardx, Down to Nothing, and Bracewar among others. Many of the bands featured on Bridge 9 Records, Revelation Records, and Deathwish Inc. are part of this culture.

[edit] Clothing Styles

Styles are in nature very basic. A hardcore bro will usually be seen wearing the t-shirt of one of their favorite bands, a t-shirt from Express, or a Rugby shirt. Shirts are generally worn tight as many hardcore bros are avid weight lifters, and like to "show off" their physique. Pants are generally camo shorts, athletic shorts, or jeans. Footwear is similar to that of a hardcore jock in the fact that Nike dunks are popular, but a differentiation is that hardcore bros are also fond of wearing Doc Marten boots, as they are "hard". Other common articles of clothing include wide/flat brimmed baseball hats and parkas generally of The North Face brand. Tattoos and piercings are also common.

[edit] Terminology/"Lingo"

Hardcore bros generally use words such as "bro", "rad", "sweet", "tight", or "dude" at least once within a conversation. In many cases sentences will begin with "dude" and end with "bro", with "rad", "sweet", or "tight" scattered through out the sentence.

  • Ex: "Dude, the new RJ is hella tight bro. Check it." (Hey, the new Righteous Jams CD is very good. You should listen to it)

[edit] Crews

Since the advent of the Youth Crew era of hardcore, crews have played an important role in the culture of the hardcore bro. A crew is a loosely organized group that functions to further promote the lifestyle, by organizing concerts, promoting bands, recording music, and occasionally engaging in borderline gang activities in order to further promote ones own crew (acts such as tagging)
