[edit] Trivia
- The scene that showed Lance Henriksen wearing a burning trench coat was real, unscripted and accidental. With the situation at hand, Henriksen continued acting and blended the incident into the story. The incident also explains why the actors, who played the henchmen, were so surprised at what happened to Henriksen. The look on their faces was genuine surprise.
- Originally, the film contained a boat chase, but Jean Claude Van Damme was adamant about changing it to a chase on horseback, as seen in the finished film. John Woo later recycled what was to be the boat chase when he directed Face/Off.
- The specialty handgun that Lance Henriksen wielded was also in another John Woo movie, Hard Boiled, used by the Mad Dog character.
- Several of the scenes in Hard Target were redone scenes from Hard Boiled, the last Hong Kong film that John Woo directed before working in America.
