Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The episode begins with Max calling Logan, leaving a message on his answering machine to check up on him. She then tells Original Cindy that she's taking a sick day. While in line for gasoline, the truck runs dry and a man pulls a gun on the officer. A young boy is caught in the crossfire, which Max runs to help. Instead she gets shot herself and rushed to a medical facility, Harbor Lights. As she is sedated, Logan calls her pager. The doctor checks the pager and calls Logan, as his number was the last called. To protect her identity he identifies her as Linda Eastman, his wife. Logan gets a hold of Dr. Carr, who drops by the hospital and swipes Max's blood sample from the lab. He then drops by and gives Max a visit, dropping her off a change of clothes. It is then discovered that a virus is detected in "L. Eastwood." Dr. Harrington realizes that the lab tech mixed up Eastwood and Eastman, as she had just released the former earlier in the day. Meaning, Dr. Carr took the wrong blood sample and that the results they are looking at are from Max's bloodwork. As the doctor relays this information, her call is intercepted by Ames White's people. White is told that 452 (Max) is at the medical facility. After taking a moment, he tells his people to assemble a team and meet him in 20 minutes.

Max is put into quarantine at the hospital and told of her situation. After talking with Dr. George, where she tells him she's fine, she faints due to her loss of blood and surgery. Logan arrives back at Harbor Lights, as does Ames White. They both are denied access to the area. Ames is disguised as an FBI agent, telling them Max is at the top of the FBI's most wanted list. Nevertheless he is still denied access, as just then a local news crew enters the building. Dr. George pays another visit to Max, telling her that she's not contagious. Also, he now knows she has no "junk DNA" and wants to take her to CDC headquarters.

Logan has now set up operations in his car, but his signal goes out everytime the news van broadcasts. Nurse Betty, a familiar, then receives a call from Ames White. He tells her to kill Max. Logan, who had been listening in on White's phone calls, hears this and warns Max. The nurse prepares to give Max her "medication" when the machine starts to act weird. Logan is sending a message through morse code. Just before Nurse Betty can put the syringe into Max's IV, Max deciphers the code and pulls the IV out of her arm. After a fight, the nurse is thrown out the window. She survives. White sees this and climbs the outside of the building to go after Max himself.

Dr. Carr is given the third degree by Dr. George about Max. He is questioned about mutants and Manticore, before Dr. George is briefed to Max's escape. She tricks a couple officers to believe she had hid in the morgue. When they discover that she's not there, Max goes in to change clothes and call Logan. He tells her to get to the top floor of the building, but after that the signal drops out. Once at the top floor, two officers track her down but are then shot by White. Max begins to hid in the shadows, as White tries to follow the sound of her voice. After White unloads and drops his first gun, he reaches for the second as Max hits him over the head. He chases her up to the roof where they fight. As White is about to shoot her a helicopter flys overhead, which distracts him long enough for Max to get a cheap shot and run over to the helicopter. Logan is inside and tells Max to grab his hand. She stares at his gloved hand for a second and grabs the sleeve of his coat, as White shoots at the helicopter flying off.

Max is back at her apartment with Original Cindy and Logan, as Cindy sarcastically remarks about Logan not bringing her back in better shape. Max comes to the realization, now that the public has the information they do "sooner or later we're gonna run out of luck." Dr. George is then seen in Washington D.C. handing over Max's file on a park bench, as the episode comes to a close.

Spoilers end here.
