The Hapes Nova-Class Battle Cruisers are fictional spacecraft from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The Hapes Consortium, a small group of planets under one ruler, had several different warships at their disposal. The ship that they used to deal out damage was their signature Battle Dragons, but the battle cruisers were used primarily to supplement the Dragons. They are usually found patrolling the border, where they served to suppress the innumerable pirates and smugglers who sought to penetrate to the fabulously wealthy inner worlds of the Hapes Cluster (one smuggler would be a one Han Solo). To better patrol, these cruisers are well-stocked, to the point where they can operate for a full Standard-year without ever returning to a base.

[edit] Design

The Hapes Nova-Class Battle cruisers are 400 meters in length and are bristling with weaponry. The bridge of the ship is connected to a long neck-like body, with an "inverted-V" shape split-wing structure at the rear of the vessel. The bridge has a retractable wall-like shield that can be deployed for combat. Near the end of the ship's body are the landing/launch bay and main power core. The ion/hyperdrive engines and maneuvering jet arrays on the rear wings make for a combat cruiser that is extremely swift at both sublight and light speeds, thanks to its modern design (and not a little due to technological espionage directed against Imperial corporations such as Kuat Drive Yards and SoroSuub). Recent retrofits of Nova-class cruisers have followed the practices of the Mon Calamari in adding redudant shield generators and larger, more reliable power generators- these improvements cost one of the Miy'til squadrons, however.

[edit] Armament

The main weapons of the cruiser are generally 25 turbolasers for use against capital ships, 10 laser cannons for dealing with starfighters or light freighters, and 10 ion cannons for disabling and capturing enemy ships. In their bays, they carry two squadrons of Hapan Miy'til fighters, and six Hetrinar assault bombers. The Hapes Nova cruisers must pick and enter their battles cautiously, as their slow (3x as slow) turbolaser technology may leave them unable to return fire at very inopportune times; hence, they are generally deployed in wings of 3 or more ships. This allows for the swift, brutal assault that is generally preferred by the Hapans.

[edit] Trivia

Prince Isolder [1] once offered a Cruiser to Han Solo if Solo would drop his courtship of Princess Leia. Solo refused, and instead kidnapped Leia, spiriting her off to Dathomir.
