Routine Therapy was a rock music group based out of Texas. Drummer Greg Rinehart and vocalist Will Short founded the band--along with John Bell on guitar and Mark Moncrieff on bass--after the breakup of their former group, Nervous Tik. A few of that band’s songs carried over to Routine Therapy’s catalogue. Mostly playing the DFW Metroplex area, the band managed to record the four-song I Don’t Wanna Think Anymore EP in December of 2004. The album saw release the next month.

A year into Routine Therapy’s existence, Bell moved on. He was replaced by Moncrieff on guitar, who himself was replaced by band friend and engineer on the EP Brandyn Littleton on bass. This line-up continued until the band’s demise in May 2006, a split due mainly to Rinehart’s moving out-of-state. A second EP entitled Shut In has been in the works at various times but has yet to be released.

Routine Therapy’s sound was reminiscent of American hardcore punk of the early 1980s. Speed, volume, and shouted/screamed vocals were the most distinctive qualities, though the band incorporated some aspects of early heavy metal and alternative rock into their sound. Most songs were composed by Short and lyrically centered around mental depression. The band’s logo, a stylized drawing of a boy holding his own head in dismay, was taken from the cover to early editions of William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies.
