Hanstholm municipality is a Danish municipality (Danish, kommune) in Viborg County on the northwest coast of Vendsyssel-Thy, a part of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 564 km², and has a total population of 29,133 (2005). Its mayor is Ejner Frøkjær, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hanstholm.

Neighboring municipalities are Fjerritslev to the east and Thisted to the south. To the north is Vigsø Bay (‘’Vigsø Bugt’’) and beyond that the Skagerrak. To the west is the North Sea.

Ferry service connects the municipality at the town of Hanstholm northwest over the Skagerrak to Bergen, Norway, and northwest over the Skagerrak, the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean to Tórshavn, Faroe Islands and Lerwick, Shetland Islands via Smyril Line's ship Norröna, the largest ferry in the Farøe Islands. Travel via the Norröna is the only possibility of travelling to these locations with car.

Hanstholm is the country's largest fishing port, and is the starting point of national bicycle route Hanstholm-Copenhagen.

By January 1, 2007 Hanstholm municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with Thisted and Sydthy municipalities to form the new Thisted municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,072 km² and a total population of 46,158 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Nordjylland ("North Jutland Region").
