Hansen Township, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hansen Township was a geographic township in North central Ontario, Canada. Originally named Stalin Township, after Joseph Stalin, it was renamed in 1986 when a private member's bill passed through the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in honour of Rick Hansen, a parapelegic athlete. In 1999, the township was annexed into the Municipality of Killarney. The township was bounded by Roosevelt on the west, Killarney Township on the south, Goschen on the east and the Town of Walden on the north. The township is very remote, being only accessible by a hiking trail that encircles Killarney Provincial Park which makes up the southern 5/6 of the Township. The Township is home to two lakes, East Howry Lake and Great Mountain Lake.
