Hans Tuppy

Hans Tuppy (born 22 July 1924 in Vienna) is a biochemist who was minister for science and research in the Austrian government during the chancellorship of Franz Vranitzky, until 24. April 1989.

While he was at university studying chemistry, shortly after World War II, Tuppy was active in university life, cofounding the Catholic University Community, a Roman Catholic organization ministering to college and university students.
The most important dates in his career:
- 1948 Ph.D.
- 1956 Habilitation
- since 1963 professor at the University of Vienna Institute of Biochemistry
- 1974-1982 President of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
- 1983-1985 Rector of the University of Vienna and Chair of the Austrian rectors' conference.
- 1985-1987 President of Austrian Academy of Sciences
- 1987-1989 Austrian Minister for Science and Research
- since 2003 Chair of the University board of University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna
As young researcher, Hans Tuppy worked in Cambridge with Frederick Sanger, who was later awarded a Nobel Prize.
