Hans Hedtoft (ship)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

M/S Hans Hedtoft was a Danish liner sailing from Greenland that struck an iceberg and sank on January 30, 1959. Besides the 40 crew members, there were a total of 55 passengers aboard Hans Hedtoft; none of the 95 persons survived. Hans Hedtoft was on its maiden voyage and was said to be "unsinkable" due to its strong design. The same boast was made of its (in)famous predecessor, the Titanic, almost 50 years earlier. The Hedtoft was built to move through the thick ice of the Greenland area.
