He is currently single. His hobbies are reading, waterskiing, beach volleyball and going to the movies.[citation needed]

Butt is known for taking free kicks and penalty kicks. He claims his greatest moments in his career are emerging as World Cup runner-up 2002, UEFA Champions League finalist 2002, and promotion to the 2. Bundesliga with VfB Oldenburg.[citation needed]

He moved to Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer and has been their number one goalkeeper ever since. He was a member of the team that lost to Real Madrid in the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final.
