Hanover is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. The population was 251 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.4 km² (7.5 mi²). 18.2 km² (7.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it (6.13%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 251 people, 106 households, and 76 families residing in the town. The population density was 13.8/km² (35.7/mi²). There were 207 housing units at an average density of 11.4/km² (29.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.60% White and 0.40% Native American.
There were 106 households out of which 32.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% were married couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.82.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 107.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $35,000, and the median income for a family was $50,938. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $24,167 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,458. About 5.5% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under the age of eighteen and 15.4% of those sixty five or over.
