Hannes Messemer

Hannes Messemer (May 19, 1924 - November 2, 1991) was a German actor who acted the role as the commandant in The Great Escape (1963). Messemer was born in Westphalia, Germany in 1924, and was a soldier for the Wehrmacht who served on the Eastern Front and was eventually captured by Soviet soldiers. He died of a heart attack in North Rhine, Germany on November 2, 1991 at the age of 67.
