Hannah Chaplin

Hannah Resiel (1865—1928) was Charlie Chaplin's mother. She was born Hannah Harriette Hillin in Herkimer, New York. She became a Music Hall entertainer and used the stage name Lily Harley.
She married Charles Chaplin, Sr., a fellow Music Hall entertainer. Their son Charles Spencer Chaplin (later known as Charlie Chaplin) was born in 1889.
Hannah and Charles Chaplin, Sr separated soon after his birth.
Hannah became responsible for taking care of Charlie and his older brother Sydney. She became increasingly mentally ill and had a breakdown in 1895.
Her granddaughter Geraldine Chaplin portrayed her in the 1992 film called Chaplin.
