Hanibal Lucić

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hanibal Lucić (ca. 1485 - 1553) was a Croatian poet and playwright.

He was born in Hvar, where he lived most of his life. He used to write love poetry, under heavy influence of Francesco Petrarca, but he also included Croatian folklore in his work. He wrote Robinja, the first secular-themed play in history of Croatian literature.

He was prone to self-criticism and had most of his work burned. The rest was salvaged and later published by his son Antonij.
