"Hangar 18"(sample ) is a song by American thrash metal band Megadeth from the 1990 album Rust In Peace.
It is a song inspired by UFO conspiracy theories and has a chordal structure in D minor also used by Metallica in their song "The Call of Ktulu" from the Ride the Lightning album, which was made from the demo When Hell Freezes Over which was written in part by Mustaine while he was still in Metallica. After a standard verse/chorus structure, the second half of the song is instrumental. Ex-Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman claims that the original version of the song was much longer than what appears on the Rust in Peace album. This song is notable for containing no less than eleven guitar solos by Friedman and Mustaine.
A sequel to this song called "Return to Hangar" was included on Megadeth's album The World Needs a Hero.
The song is featured in the PlayStation 2 game Guitar Hero II.
Some believe that this song was the basis for a tune in the PC video game DOOM II in the Entryway stage.[citation needed]
