Hanford High School is located on the northern edge of Richland, Washington. The school's mascot is the Falcon, and its school colors are purple and gold.
Originally, the high school, built in 1972, was part of a K-12 complex, which included an elementary and junior high (later a middle school). The elementary school was closed in the mid-1980's in the light of budget cuts in the Richland School District, and the middle school was closed in 2005 when Enterprise Middle School was opened in West Richland in the same year.
As of early 2006, Hanford High School is currently undergoing an expansion and remodeling project, along with Richland High School.
[edit] Academics
Hanford High emphasizes academics and is generally considered to be the top public high school in all of southeastern Washington of 3A size.[citation needed] The school's WASL and Iowa Standard Test scores annually rank among the statewide leaders, and Hanford High has often led the area. Hanford High has long been been a leader in the arts, home to award winning drama, photography, band, and visual arts programs.
