Handlin, Garrahan, Zachos & Associates

Handlin, Garrahan, Zachos & Associates is an architecture firm, founded in 2002 based in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The firm has three partners: David Handlin, John Garrahan, Elizabeth Zachos, and it has designed residences, museums, educational buildings and private residences. To date, their most notable works have been the entrance to the Museum of Fine Arts, an admission center at the prestigious Phillips Academy, and the changes made to the Massachusetts State House in order to make it accessibility compliant. In 2006, the firm was developing affordable housing on Martha's Vineyard, an area most famous to outsiders for the mansions of the wealthy who reside there in the summer, but which is also home to year-round, lower-income people working in the fishing and tourism industries. It is to address the needs of the latter that this project is being developed. [1]
David Handlin received his M. Arch. from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, in 1971, and has taught at University of Cambridge, Harvard University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1984, he founded David P. Handlin and Associates, the precursor to this firm. Among his publications are two books: American Architecture (London and New York,1985; second edition, 2003) and The American Home, Architecture and Society (Boston, 1979).
John Garrahan received his M. Arch. from he Harvard Graduate School of Design, in 1987. He has taught at Harvard and the Boston Architectural Center. In 1987, he won the American Institute of Architects Certificate of Merit. In the same year, he joined David P. Handlin and Associates.
Elizabeth Zachos received her M. Arch. from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1990. She joined David P. Handlin and Associates in 1992
