In 2006 the men's team in football won its first promotion to the Icelandic Premier League, Landsbankadeild. HK has also a Handball team, Volleyball team, Ping pong team, and a Basketball team. HK has made some of Iceland's hot prospects in football. Players like Rúrik Gíslason and Bjarki Már Sigvaldason have been named one of many players who have the ability to succed big in the sport. Their goalkeeper, Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson has been the best keeper in Iceland for many years but has shown his club loyalty and helped HK to become one of the top clubs in Iceland.
Rúrik Gíslason is now playing for Charlton Athletic in the English Premiership and has been around the first team in some games but never been in the squad. He also played for Anderlecht in Belgium for a short time and came back to his old club, HK.
Barði Páll Júlíusson has now popped up in the club. Fantastic playmaker who can finish the game by his own. Being only 14 years old he has been doing well in training under the guidance of Zeljko Sancovic. First team coach, Gunnar Guðmundsson has also made the impression by signing the youngster and making him a legend at the club. With zero games on his belt he is still trying to become one of the greatest player ever for HK.
