Hanahan High School

Hanahan High School is a high school located in Hanahan, South Carolina. Hanahan High School serves grades 9 through 12, and is a part of the Berkeley County School District. The "Hawk" is the mascot of Hanahan. The current principal is Rodney Thompson.

Hanahan High School offers the most rigorous programs for their students. Honors classes are available, and Hanahan offers 4 AP courses:
-AP English Lit. and Composition
-AP US History
-AP Biology (every other year)
-AP Calculus AB

Hanahan High School has implemented the Freshman Academy, clustering the freshman into "schools of study" to determine a major.

The Broadcast Journalism class produces a weekly news show, Hawks Eye View. The print journalism classes produces a bi-monthly periodical titled The Word.

  • The Hanahan Hawks play athletics in Region 6-AA.
  • The Athletic Director is head football coach Jeff Cruce. Cruce is also a former Clemson Tiger, and was an offensive tackle on the 1981 Clemson National Championship team.
  • The Hanahan Hawks football team had a region winning streak of 46 games. That was the second longest streak in the state of South Carolina (1st is Stratford High School, 51 games, still going). The streak ended with a loss at Andrews High School 26-28. Current quarterback in John Carnell who in 2006 passed for 3200 yards and 26 touchdowns. He is one of the highest rated players in the state.
  • Also the Hanahan Hawks football team has an accomplishment of 10-consecutive Region 6-AA Championships dating back to 1996. A reason for such winning ways might have occurred because of the closing of Cainhoy High School in Huger, South Carolina. All students from the high school had to go to Hanahan. In those students, there were athletes' eager to continue their football careers. The athletes from Cainhoy and Hanahan High Schools have combined together for 10 years now to form a great football program.
  • The Hanahan High men's soccer team won an "AA" state championship in 1997 under new assistant principal Rick Raycroft.
  • The Hanahan Varsity Softball team was the 2006 Region and District Champions making a trip to the Lower State Final Game.
