[edit] Boundaries
1885-1918: This was the first parliamentary constituency to be based on the town of Hammersmith, in the historic county of Middlesex. In 1889 Hammersmith was transferred for administrative purposes to the area of the London County Council. In 1900 the Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith was formed.
The parliamentary constituency bordered to the west the Ealing seat, to the north the Harrow division of Middlesex, to the east Kensington North and Kensington South and to the south the Kingston division of the historic county of Surrey as well as Fulham.
In 1918 the Municipal Borough of Hammersmith was divided into Hammersmith North and Hammersmith South constituencies.
1983-1997: The second Hammersmith constituency, by then part of Greater London and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (both created in 1965), consisted of a number of wards. They were Addison, Broadway, Brook Green, College Park and Old Oak, Coningham, Grove, Ravenscourt, Starch Green, White City and Shepherds Bush and Wormholt.
The seat was entirely formed from the previous Hammersmith North constituency.
In 1997 a new constituency was formed, including the town centres of both Hammersmith and Fulham. This was the Hammersmith and Fulham constituency.
From the next election: Following a review of parliamentary boundaries in North London, the Boundary Commission for England has created a new Hammersmith constituency, following major changes in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The review has created a new Chelsea and Fulham seat, and a new Kensington.
Hammersmith constituency is formed from the following electoral wards;
- Addison, Askew, Avonmore and Brook Green, College Park and Old Oak, Fulham Reach, Hammersmith Broadway, North End, Ravenscourt Park, Shepherd's Bush Green, Wormholt and White City.
