Hamid Reza Estili (Persian: حميدرضا استيلی ‎ , born January 4, 1967 in Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian football coach and retired player.

[edit] Playing career

Estili started soccer early and was able to impress, eventually being called up the national football team. At age 23 he made his debut versus the USSR. He was known as the workhorse of the national team, but is mostly remembered for his memorable goal and goal celebration against USA at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He retired from international football in 2000 and competitive club soccer in 2003. After the 1998 FIFA World Cup he signed for FK Austria Wien, however due to unforseen circumstances came back to Iran and played the remaining 6 years of his career at his beloved Persepolis FC. He had 82 caps and 12 goals for the national team.

Estili has played for many clubs such as Al Qadisiya Kuwait, Bahman, Esteghlal Jonoub, Geylang United FC and Pas, but his best years were spent in Persepolis FC.

[edit] Coaching career

He is currently an assistant coach of Persepolis FC. After Arie Haan left the team in August 2006, Estili became the temporary head coach, but shortly afterwards Mustafa Denizli was signed as the head coach and Estili returned to his former position. During the 2006-07 mid-season break, Estili left the team due to problems with Denizli.
