Hamakita, Shizuoka

Hamakita (浜北市; -shi) was a city located in Shizuoka, Japan. The city was amalgamated by the city of Hamamatsu on July 1, 2005 along with 11 municipalities.

Hamakita means North of Hamana District, not North of the city of Hamamatsu.

As of April 1, 2005-final population data before the July 1, 2005 amagalation, the city has an estimated population of 87,810. The total area is 66.64 km².

  • July 1, 1963-The city was founded after the town of Hamakita gained city status.
  • July 1, 2005-The city was amalgamated by the city of Hamamatsu along with 11 municipalities.
  • April 1, 2007-The city of Hamamatsu is scheduled to become a designated city and the Hamakita-ku will be founded at the sametime.
