[edit] Halyn's story

Halyn is a female, born to first-time mother Kayla. Her father is Keet, currently residing at the park. She was born after a normal two-hour-labor. Some minutes after birth Kayla rejected her calf and staff immediately stepped in for aid. Halyn was placed in a medical or back pool along with an adult female bottelnose dolphin, as a companion and teacher. She was hand-fed with a special formula. Kayla is doing well and is as healthy as her strong little calf. Her reaction on her calf could be, because she lived without her mother Kenau* most of her life and also just male orcas. Kayla and Kenau were separated when Kayla wasn't even three years old. She is doing very well and has already started teething. In some months she will be able to be moved back to her family and maybe Kayla will have a different reaction on her as after birth. Currently Halyn is in a medical area out of public's view along with an adult female bottelnose dolphin, named Mattie (a bottlenose dolphin who was rescued from the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network). Maybe it is the same dolphin she was living with shortly after her birth, or it may be another one because the first dolphin female had no interest in her. Halyn is listening to calls from her family to get introduced to them. In some months, she will be moved to them.

On May 2, 2006 SWT announced that Halyn was moved to Shamu Theater, where she will be introduced to Unna, Kayla, Tuar, Ky, and Keet one at a time. It was also announced that Halyn is weaned off of formula and onto fish. She is Corky's great grand niece, Orky 2's and Kenau's first born granddaughter, and she is considered as a great grandbaby Shamu. Halyn lives at Sea World San Antonio. Since Halyn currently has no mother to watch over her 24/7, a possible adopted mother could be the other dominant female, Unna, who suffered the stillbirth of her first calf in late April. In late November, Kayla, Halyn's mom was moved to Seaworld in Orlando. She has also performed her first mini show all by herself sometime in January 2007.

Because Halyn is considered a "Great-Grand Baby Shamu", she is the grand daughter of Kalina, the original "Baby Shamu" who lives at Sea World Florida, that would make Kalina's mother Katina a great grandmother because her grandson is Halyn's father Keet.
