Halton District School Board serves public school students throughout Halton Region, including the municipalities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Its administration area is to the west and north of the city of Toronto. In 2006-2007, it served almost 50,000 students, excluding those in adult, alternative, and Community Education programs.
The Board operates 76 elementary schools, and 16 secondary schools (listed below).

The Board also operates Gary Allan High School for adult, alternative and Community Education programs.
The Board has closed two of its secondary schools in recent years:
- Oakville's Queen Elizabeth Park School High School was operated by the Board until June, 2004, at which time it was closed and replaced by Abbey Park High School.
- Also in June, 2004, Lord Elgin High School and General Brock High School were amalgamated into the new Robert Bateman High School in Burlington.[3]
