Haltom City Police Department

The Haltom City Police Department serves the city of Haltom City, Texas in Tarrant County. The HCPD consists of approximately 80 sworn police officers and has been headed by Chief Ken Burton since 2003 and Deputy Chief Ron Everett since 2004.
The HCPD Patrol Division manages 5 districts within the city and is supplemented by additional specialized units such as:
- S.W.A.T.
- K-9
- C.I.D. (Criminal Investigations Division)
- Crime Scene Unit
[edit] Line of Duty Deaths
The HCPD has suffered one line of duty death. On March 6, 1993, Police Officer Gary C. Hires was shot and killed while responding to a 911 call of shots fired. He was shot in the head by a 16-year-old with a high-powered rifle before he could exit his vehicle. The suspect was also killed in the incident.
P.O. Hires had been with the agency for 19 years and is survived by his wife, three sons, and two brothers.
